New 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor [Stock] Review – Exterior/Interior/Engine/Suspension

Ford introduced the world to the Bronco® in 1966 – more than 50 years ago! The rugged and timeless design of the early Bronco would make it one of the most popular and sought-after vehicles for many decades to follow.

Fast forward to the present, and Ford has brought the market the ULTIMATE off-road 4X4 with the introduction of the 2022 Ford Bronco® Raptor. This flagship Bronco receives new body components, an exclusive trim powertrain, and one of the best suspension setups on the market.

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Review

The 2022-2023 Bronco Raptor comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that produces a hearty 418 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque (the new 3.0-liter EcoBoost in the Bronco Raptor is exclusive to the flagship model and cannot be ordered in any other Bronco trim). The Raptor’s powertrain is mated to Ford’s flawless 10-speed automatic transmission that makes shifts seamless, keeps the SUV thick in the power band when you need it, and is smooth and seamless when cruising down the freeway or driving around town. The combination of the impressive EcoBoost V6 and quick-shifting 10-speed push the Bronco Raptor from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds.

Bronco Raptor Engine

As we’ve seen with Ford’s high-output Ranger and F-150 Raptor, the combination of off-road equipment and the increased power makes the Bronco Raptor’s powertrain less efficient than BIG BEND, BLACK DIAMOND, OUTER BANKS, BADLANDS, WILDTRAK, and EVERGLADES models, which are fitted with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost or 2.7-liter EcoBoost engines. The stock Raptor’s new 3.0-liter EcoBoost averages roughly 16 miles-per-gallon combined between city and highway driving.

Bronco Raptor Off-Road

The Bronco Raptor really outshines its siblings when the going gets rough with its updated FOX® Live Valve suspension. The new 3.1 internal bypass semi-active dampers are tuned specifically for the Bronco Raptor. They feature reservoirs at front and rear that work simultaneously with sensors to monitor terrain conditions at an unbelievable speed.  The Raptor’s advanced off-road suspension gives the rally-ready SUV 13” of travel in the front and 14” in the rear (those combined translate to a nearly 50% increase over the Bronco base trim). To further enhance the Bronco’s off-road ability, the Raptor receives massive 37” off-road tires wrapped around 17” alloy wheels (beadlock-capable 17” forged wheels are available as an option).

Inside the passenger cabin, the Bronco Raptor gets more aggressively bolstered seats and a thicker steering wheel – with controls for the Raptor-specific suspension, exhaust, and steering mode control switches. Another panel of off-road focused buttons allow the driver to disconnect the front sway bar, lock the front and rear axles, and make turning around on a trail or in the backcountry more of a breeze via Trail Turn Assist. The interior is complimented by a crystal clear 12” fully digital gauge cluster and a tasteful 12” center infotainment display that uses Ford’s latest SYNC® 4.
